The iPhone isn’t as good as a Nokia (with animations!)
Funny link from Terry, who typed, and I quote:
Heh.
I do not love the iPhone, and not for the usual reasons
I don’t share the general undying love and devotion that Apple fans have displayed for the iPhone. One of my main reasons is I have an allergy to being locked into using something I would not otherwise use (i.e. iTunes, hence I’ve never even contemplated buying an iPod). If I was in the US and got an iPhone I’d be locked into using AT&T (and spend a shitload of money in the process).
If I don’t explain my other primary reason why the iPhone leaves me colder than a frigid lady polar bear, I’m sure I’m going to hear some passioned defence and ad hominem arguments, so here it is:
I am a klutz. If I spent well over six hundred US dollars on an all-singing, all-dancing converged device*, it had better not be all shiny and consist mainly of a glass touchscreen. Because I will drop it within a quarter of an hour, glass side down. On a very hard surface. From height.
Apple has alienated groups of users such as myself.
* I also have an issue with converged devices. I like having multiple gadgets that do their one job well.
Interesting concept, eBay addicts would go nuts
If I was living and working in the US, I know a few people who would be addicted to Bid4Prizes. What happens is you join the site and you try to bid as low as possible, and the lowest bid amount with only one bidder (i.e., the bid amount is unique amongst all other bidders) wins. You can play by SMS (unlimited bids) for $9.99 a month (wow, that could build up) or for free online.
If you’re one of those majorly lucky types, you should know that you’re restricted to winning only once every 90 days.
So to sweeten the deal, they will give you ‘points’ for every bid you make, and you can redeem those points at the shop. You’ll need to bid at least 100 times to get a laser pointer and 325 times to get a twee leather backpack (yeah — what a bargain). IMHO, if you’re doing it by phone, it’s only really worthwhile if you’re bidding on every single sweepstake they have on the site every month, every day. There are 17 prizes on the site at the moment, one of which is an Apple iPhone. Are they even out yet?!
I can definitely see the addictive quality of this site.

The Sydney Morning Herald needs to fire their tech writer
They don’t know how to check their facts, for starters. I’m no fan of designer-labelled mobiles, but the LG-Prada phone is not an Apple iPhone lookalike. Mockups of the Prada phone were out in December, and since we know that the secrets of the iPhone were kept well under wraps until the announcement at MacWorld, the author of this article obviously did only the most rudimentary of research, possibly by surveying rabid Apple fans.
Does not endear Apple to me
Apple seems like a very unpleasant corporation. Sending cease and desists to people writing about a Windows Mobile skin mimicking the Apple mobile phone interface? There’s also a post on BoingBoing about how Apple’s DRM is really, really bad for competition (and the consumer).
The Apple iPhone may be pretty, but it sounds like the most expensive phone purchase you’ll ever make (in dollars and future upgrades). It’s so amazing that people can rail against Microsoft for monopoly practices and also embrace the iPod that has effectively made them a captive audience.
Not that I’m speaking specifically to anyone, but I know you’re out there.
Not overly impressed
This is going to be so uncool of me (and I’m not some anti-fashion hipster wannabe), but I have to say that the iPhone is not as attractive as the MOTOROKR E6 (and I am seriously feeling gadget lust). I’m still happy with my StrTrk, although I do love looking at new phones.
