Sherlock Holmes, the movie

After only being made aware of Rupert Everett’s Sherlock Holmes a few months ago (ah, satellite teevee) and already a big fan of the stories, I’m a wee bit apprehensive (will it just be Holmes the geezer with a posh accent) but very excited (Robert Downey Jr… *wibble*) about the film coming out this Christmas. The trailer looks like it’ll be great fun, though.

New home blues

We’ve been trying to get broadband Internet access at home, but the service provider (who offered and sold us a home phone and broadband deal) told us that the line (and therefore phone number) they installed for us is unable to be connected to broadband, so could we please tell them the correct phone number?

Yes, I was confused. No, it hasn’t been resolved.

Also, our washer-dryer has stopped working after 10 days’ use, and we’re supposed to go home and check the filter or something.

But otherwise everything is as magnolia as Really Magnolia can be (a little home décor humour there) and I’m really happy with our little flat! Once we get a kitchen it’ll be even better, hehe.

And we’re going on holiday! I can’t wait.

The scandal of expenses…

… is way more interesting than H1N1, judging by what’s been on the news the past couple of weeks on BBC Radio Scotland’s morning programme.

*crickets*

It’s not all fun, fun, fun here at See Sim The Tower of Incomplete Renovation — although we’ve been watching films and stuff:

9 Dead Gay Guys — a re-viewing. Silly as always. Highly recommended if you have a taste for the absurd. Should it worry me that Neil chose to watch this? Heh.

The Notebook — even Neil enjoyed this. Despite it being the type of film I love to hate, the acting and screenplay, I think, made it not just a saccharine chick flick. And the ending was perfectly bittersweet.

Bass Notes — I got free tickets to see a ‘world premiere’ of Concerto Op 42 ‘Sonnambulo’. A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday evening, then we went to a rock bar and stayed out too late.

Meanwhile there’s been loads of laundry done and — crucially — no cooking. We’ve really got to get that cooker connected. And a proper mattress as well. It’s been pretty tough finding a mattress firm enough for us — Scots sure are wussy. And we’ve still got a final box (or two) of stuff that needs to be moved. And we need to get one more small wardrobe. And to finish papering the hallway.

But at least our books have been unpacked!

Now we’re Edinbuggers

Obligatory new place snapshot

At our new place, with our big bookshelves behind us. Having now seen all of Neil’s books that appeared out of the loft at his mum’s, I’m somewhat concerned that we’ll run out of space immediately.

(And Neil kept a straight face for once. He must be feeling unwell.)
