To me, it seems like some Americans are determined to perpetuate the stereotype that Americans have no sense of humour or irony. Or the depth and intelligence to read a damn magazine.

I think the image on the cover needed a tiny bit more something. Either a thought balloon around it coming from one of The Usual Suspects known for spreading misinformation like this, or just the barest headline describing the related article.

One survey found that something like 23% of people believe he was raised a Muslim. Yes, nearly a quarter of the population might look at that cover and think ‘yes, I knew it was true!’ It is sad that so many people in the US have been duped by the likes of Rupert Murdoch.

I think another thing is Americans are so sensitised to race issues that this offends so much more. We were discussing this at lunch yesterday!
