Does not endear Apple to me

Apple seems like a very unpleasant corporation. Sending cease and desists to people writing about a Windows Mobile skin mimicking the Apple mobile phone interface? There’s also a post on BoingBoing about how Apple’s DRM is really, really bad for competition (and the consumer).

The Apple iPhone may be pretty, but it sounds like the most expensive phone purchase you’ll ever make (in dollars and future upgrades). It’s so amazing that people can rail against Microsoft for monopoly practices and also embrace the iPod that has effectively made them a captive audience.

Not that I’m speaking specifically to anyone, but I know you’re out there.

The preliminary price for the iPhone is not that high. The RAZR was $500 when it first came out if you did not sign your life away on a contract to get it.

Please don’t get me going on All the stupid things Apple is doing. I have not bought any music from the Apple music store (an not just because of the DRM) but I do use iTunes to organize my music on the computer. Now if I could just find a car stereo that plays MP3’s off a DVD+RW or a cheap 20GB thumb drive, I might listen to more of it… Apple has a majority of the MP3 player just because they have the one that sucks the least, and were able to leverage that into being one of the current “hot” toys.

$500 is bloody high! I was practically shaking at spending S$300 on a phone.

I think the problem is that people are all into this convergence… I like my devices to do the one thing they’re meant to do, well. I don’t really love the iPod / Creative interface, I only need something simple that tells me what’s playing now, volume control, stop, play, pause, repeat, shuffle. And a decent memory (1GB is enough).
