What a serious topic

Do you think it’s a coincidence? Last week I was asked to write about wedding planning, and this week I’m to continue my authorship, this time on the topic of life insurance quotes in Canada. Since most people know I’m a bit of a nut about serial killers and profiling (yes, an unfortunate choice of words, but I like them), I also know that there have been serial killers who murder for profit, usually after MARRYING someone and then either using persuasion or forgery to gain beneficiary rights in LIFE INSURANCE policies.

But, you know, I don’t think Life Insurance Canada is promoting murder for profit. Insurance is important in many ways — as long as it covers you when things go wrong. I’ve read about many insurers who change their policies so they don’t cover certain catastrophes once that particular catastrophe has been proven to be a real possibility, given the current state of the world. And I think that sucks.

Health (medical, hospitalisation) insurance, though, is something we all need, especially if we can afford it. Sure, the state can and usually does provide some basic medical care, but I prefer to leave those public funds available to those who cannot afford to pay for private cover. And when I say “cannot afford”, I mean the elderly who have been abandoned, those with low incomes who are doing their very best, and those who are finding it difficult to cope with a disabled relative. Someone who chooses not to work or refuses to try to better themselves economically (distinct from those who are doing their best) should not get handouts.

(Come to think, I don’t have a job and have not had a steady income for years, so I actually qualify as someone who cannot afford it, but I do have some private health insurance — a low premium and a good agent helps.)

Life Insurance Canada looks like a good informational site — they provide quotes from different providers to help those resident in Canada make a more informed choice. There is even a calculator to assist in estimating the amount of coverage needed. Although I would always then try to find an agent I can trust.

(I’d considered writing about my father, who was an insurance agent in Singapore, and that would have made this a long, very uncomplimentary piece, but I decided that that would only sully the simplicity of this post.)
