It's just such a shame, kids have so little to do and feel so little hope that this is considered a good use of time. But perhaps it is entrenched - I'm thinking of football casuals, grown men who think attacking other people is all in a Saturday night's fun.

There are places in California that are like that but they are not really widespread. It is one of the reasons I have been so critical of the recent govenors. They seem to be ignoring schools on purpose to insure that there is an underclass to be exploited / work as cashiers at Wal-Mart.

I’ve never been to Glasgow and don’t know if its fair or not but the city seems to have a reputation for these kinds of problems – here they are discussed on
an Australian radio show!

Actually I think these kinds of behavior are really entrenched is some areas across the UK.

The kind of senselessness in the incident you mentioned reminds me of the happy slapping phenomenon that occurred across the UK over the last couple of years: groups of youths attack someone and film it all on their mobiles. Some of the worst cases resulted in a victim being killed and in another case set on fire.

I think all the reasons you mentioned play a part in it. The scary thought is that a lot of these children will soon be parents.
