Waterproof rice to feed three billion

A glance at the headline — Waterproof rice gene identified — made me wonder, if they were to make rice waterproof, how could anyone cook it?

I’m so funny. Hahaha.

It is the plants that they are modifying to be more water-resistant, as submerged plants (and the psychotic rains in China of late will be doing that a lot, submerging, I mean) die from carbon dioxide deprivation.

Although rice production has doubled over the past 40 years, demand is continuing to grow. The crop is the staple food for more than three billion people around the globe.

Wow. I don’t even eat rice (too bland for my taste).
