Tam and Isla
These wee guys are schoolkids from the Orkney Islands, which explains why they’re blue. I’d thought to try to make a kid who made a face and the wind changed so it froze, and thought to make a girl as well (whose face hasn’t frozen in a grimace but she looks kind of like a zombie with those eyes).
(Tip: following the instructions for sock hair in the book I have does not give your doll a full head of hair. They’d need a combover. Or a hat, as Isla has donned here.)
Tam’s got dirty blonde hair and Isla’s got brown. They both go to school, and Tam clearly gets in trouble much more often than his sister. She’s tsked at him so much one side of her mouth has wrinkles, and she’s only six.
They currently live next to a photo of two little girls we know, Erin and Orla. Neil says Tam and Isla are like Erin and Orla, one is a cheeky wee sod and the other just has this knowing grin.
See more Tam and Isla photos in my Flickr stream. You can adopt Tam and/or Isla over at my Etsy store.

Dear Sir-We would like an introduction letter to your sock doll factory located in Xiamen. We believe that your silly toys will be of great demand here in seattle washington and hopefully spread across the country for the masses of people demanding useless knicknacks at incredible prices. We understand that chances are these were made with child/peasant labor and would expect a price of no more than $00.06 per sock person…but seriously. I enjoy your blog and will be visiting xiamen in 2 weeks. keep up the good work.
fred in seattle
Tam looks a little pschyco… like has he been living in Xiamen for a long time!
p.s. is Fred calling you a child or a peasant?
I’m going to go with Fred calling me a peasant. Tam IS a little psycho.
