Happens every few years. They change the cars and give them something new to trash...

The new taxis will miraculously be available just in time for the International Trade and Investment fair in a coupe of weeks...

That's when the (so-called) drivers have to wear shirts and ties and pretend like they know what they are doing!

Oi Tezza! Not much chance of any refined oil products being exported from here in the near future. All efforts are going to securing more sources for imports. The more gadgets people buy, the more plastic needs to be produced. That's where most oil products go, not to petrol or fuel oil as everyone seems to think. It's also the most lucrative segment of the market, explaining why most processing capacity that has been added(globally, not just china) in the last 5-10 years is for ethylene production.
Having said that, there has been a demand spike over here for fuel oil in the last few years 'cos electricty generating capacity hasn't kept pace with demand. Many factories now have oil powered generators to tide them over the periods when the local govt. cuts their power. Adds mucho costs.

I thought for sure this was going to be about the Chinese oil companies exporting refined products. ;)

I think I saw something about taxi's being replaced in an English dubbed Chinese movie a couple of months ago. If you are interested, I can try to look it up. It was on this network (www.azntv.com) but they changed the format a couple of months ago so the archives might not exist any more.
