The Aseanist
Being a former researcher on Southeast Asian politics and economics, I’m reading the aseanist with great interest.

I was watching TV Asia News (Hindi based) news and saw a story about the border problems between China and India. For some reason it made me think about the aseanist comments. Maybe Taiwan should become part of China. It might destabilize it so that the central government would lose power and force China to democracy sooner. OTOH, the corruption in the two different cultures could merge and become more powerful.
Changing the topic, does China have any faction like the idiotic Fundamental Christians that are forcing schools to teach Creationism coincident with Darwinism? Are Fuk, Luk, and Sou compatible with Darwinism, or do Chinese schools ever cover the evolution of the planet? I did a search and found that the UK has some problems with Creationism too, so that makes me feel a little better that it is not a US problem alone.
Personally, I think Beijing is perfectly happy with the status quo, as is Taiwan. It just can’t be seen as accepting that Taiwan is a de facto independent country, because it would be the ultimate loss of face. This is totally IMHO.
I don’t actually know about the school science curriculum in China, but since China officially eschews religion, I think they are more likely to teach evolution, if they teach the topic at all.
But hopefully someone who understands the region better will be able to discuss this with you in more depth!
