This (extended) weekend I…

  • had Cantonese beef brisket soup noodles (my favourite)
  • woke up very early to go to the Chinese consular office in Wanchai
  • had brunch at Delifrance and lunch at The White Stag
  • walked around Mongkok (looked at digital cameras with Layla and bought a pair of cycling gloves at the Flying Ball)
  • had dinner at The Quarterdeck Club with Phil, Phil’s girlfriend SWMBO, Mark, Mark’s colleague Brian, Layla, and Neil (I do miss grilled fish)
  • partied a little too hard with Phil, Mark, Layla, and Neil (ay, 6am finish — but no duck porridge)
  • met Randall (who isn’t as big as I’d imagined, is definitely white, and a guy by all outward appearances — he’s really nice)
  • got mild food poisoning (from Starbucks, I reckon; go figure, I live in Xiamen and I get food poisoning in Hong Kong)
  • slept with a rumbly tummy
  • had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe with Mark and Brian (mmm, New England Clam Chowder and Cobb salad — still with a rumbly tummy)
  • flew back to Xiamen (took a ferry to Shenzhen and caught our flight there)
  • unpacked (which took a grand total of five minutes)
  • got a haircut (now I can’t even look in the mirror without wincing)
  • had dinner at Bellagio (still with a rumbly tummy)

  1. How does one get food poisoning from Starbucks? (I’m assuming you had a beverage… but coffee isn’t a common route of disease transmission.)

But that would be a great way to affect much of the world’s population….
