Thanks to Dan, his significant other, and their pal J, I had my first Xinjiang meal in an authentic Xinjiang restaurant in Shanghai last night.
Good Lord, they eat a lot of mutton in Xinjiang. The mutton barbecued on a skewer reminds me of satay. Just bigger. All the dishes were pretty big. Maybe everything’s bigger in Xinjiang.

Xinjiang food is normal size and just indicates how ripped off you get in the South perhaps….. Yes Mutton Mutton or Mutton inter-twined with weeks of Noodles Noodles Noodles. “Koro” is the term for the Skewers. I recommend “Polo” which is a local dish of rice and sweet fruit with … you guessed it … mutton. Normally cooked in time for breakfast, but better eaten for early lunch. Great for a hangover…
